Imagine a dream destination wedding at one of the most beautiful places in the world – Martha’s Vineyard. The sea air hits you as soon as you reach the ferry in Wood’s Hole, and transports you to a new place that feels like the best kept secret that everyone knows about but few act upon. The haze in the hot and not-quite-summer air created the most beautiful light and I cannot think of a better spot than Sailing Camp Park for an intimate, outdoor wedding ceremony on Memorial Day Weekend.
The bride and bridesmaids got ready at the nearby luxury rental property The Weku House. With more than enough room to spread out and window light that is a photographers dream made it the ideal setting for wedding day preparations.
The bridesmaids all had matching, floor-length sheath gowns with a halter top. They were a delicate, medium pink tone and covered in beautiful lace with sequins and sparkle throughout. The beautiful bride had a dress that screamed elegance with a smooth skirt and buttons running down the whole train from the keyhole at the small of her back. The top had sheer panels along the side, a halter front and an easy clip in the back.
The groomsmen had blue suits with ties that matched the bridesmaids. The groom, on the other hand, wore a bowtie that stood him out from the crowd. The boutonnieres were pink and ivory calla lilies with a sprig of babies breath. And don’t forget the pocket square, which is always a smart addition.
The ceremony was simple and short, with lots of laughs and tender moments. The bride and groom read their own vows that they had written in the cutest little notebooks I have ever seen. The view over the water was so serene and peaceful. After the kiss, the couple literally danced down the aisle! It was so much fun!
After the ceremony, I took the bride and groom down to the boat launch and beach at Sailing Camp Park. The bride was perfectly prepared in her jewel encrusted sandals! I kept it easy and breezy for posing during this quick couples photo session. Their love and excitement was so infectious, which made photographing them so much fun. Their personalities are most certainly as big as their hearts. During this session, I also took a moment to show off the brides fabulous ring set.
Now let’s talk about the amazing details at this wedding! Everything from the place markers to the fun photo booth inspired guestbook were absolutely on point. The couple choice gummy bears wrapped in clear cellophane with a simple “thank you for celebrating with us” tag as a thank you gift for all the guests. The three-tier wedding cake was decorated with the beautiful soft pink and ivory roses, the same colors that were in the brides bouquet. Personalized champagne glasses also sat on the cake table, a wonderful souvenir for the couple to sip champagne on their anniversary as a reminder for their wonderful wedding day.
The couple made a pinterest-worthy backdrop with a large piece of gold fabric and covered in sequins to allow friends and family to take a quick polaroid picture. The photo would then be glued into the guestbook where they could write a personal message to the couple. What a fun way to make every guest feel included and important during the reception.
The event space at Sailing Camp Park has the most easy, at home feel to it. The walls and ceiling are all a dark wood but the windows facing the water and beautiful view bring in enough light along with the refreshing sea air. The room was also decorated with wonderful white string lights that I just love love LOVE photographing with. They make the most interesting elements either in the foreground or the background to create depth and also block out distracting elements in my photos.
For lighting, I used two off-camera lights on stands to balance with the natural light poring in through the windows. This allowed a more “natural light” effect to the reception photos.
Thank you so much Michelley and Phil for letting me be a part of your special day! I was certainly a trip to remember. And thank you to all the vendors that made their wedding possible, without you, it would have not come together so beautifully.
